Part of our work on The Giver includes an introduction to character analysis. First, the students worked individually to describe Jonas, the main character. We looked at personality traits and quotes from the book that supported our description. Then, the students worked together to create a word illustration of Jonas, adding important details, his actions, and whether or not they like him as a character.

Head- Personality traits
Arms- Physical description and the character’s actions

Right leg- Whether you like him as a character
Torso- What the students would do if they were Jonas
